Boeing Faces 787 Dreamliner Production Issues
Boeing has warned of delays in the deliveries of its 787 Dreamliner, which has now faced a total of three production issues this year.
The latest flaw was learning that some components of the 787 horizontal stabilizer were clamped with greater force than specified, which could result in improper gap verification and shimming - an issue identified in February and publicly shared Tuesday. A person familiar with the situation commented that the horizontal stabilizer problem could require the inspection of as many as 900 airplanes.
The FAA is also investigating two other manufacturing flaws in some Boeing 787 Dreamliners, but it is too early to tell if these will require new inspections.
As customers continue to ditch orders of the grounded 737 MAX jets, bringing the total number of cancelled orders on the model to 445, the 787 Dreamliner could have potentially become a new page for Boeing. Now investors are not so sure.
Boeing shares have fallen 5.8% on the news.
