Nissan-backed WeRide gets California Permit to Test Self-Driving Vehicles

    Nissan-backed start-up WeRide has received a permit to test two passenger vehicles on California's public roads without a safety driver in the front.


    Backed by Nissan, Renault and Mitsubishi, WeRide is also testing its driverless vehicle in China's Guangzhou.


    Other companies that are currently permitted to test autonomous vehicles with no safety driving in the front in California include Alphabet's Waymo, Baidu, Alibaba-backed AutoX and General Motors's Cruise.
