Tesla’s Supplier CATL to Have New Battery Plant in Shanghai
Tesla’s supplier - CATL is planning a new automotive battery plant in Shanghai - all part of a series of expansions in the desire to cement its lead as the world's number 1 battery supplier.
The plant is expected to make 80GWh of battery cells a year, which would come on top of 69.1GWh in current production capacity and another 77.5GWh under construction.
The plant’s location in Shanghai is the perfect spot for Tesla’s Chinese production base - all summing up to add even more pressure on Tesla's other battery suppliers, including Panasonic and LG.
