Walmart to Hire 20,000 Workers Ahead of Holiday Season
The world’s largest retailer - Walmart said on Wednesday that it plans to hire 20,000 workers at its supply chain division and raise wages ahead of the holiday season that promises higher demand.
The move comes as retailers across the US are concerned that they will not have enough workers in stores and warehouses during the holiday shopping season because of the nationwide labour shortage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The roles (a combination of part-time and full-time jobs) will be hired at over 250 Walmart and Sam's Club distribution centres, fulfilment centres and transportation offices.
The average wage for supply chain workers is to be $20.37 per hour, which compares with the company's announcement of $15.25 an hour average wage pay in February.
