Thinking of trading NAT.GAS?

    1. While natural gas plays a large role in space heating, it is also growing in importance as a fuel for power generation - as mentioned, it has started to beat out coal as the top fuel for power generation in the US. Even with production growing at a rapid rate in the country (the US is expected to shift from being a net importer to a net exporter of natural gas by 2018),the Smart investor argues that there will be plenty of growing demand abroad as well. 2. More than 70% of all the oil consumed in the U.S. is as a transportation fuel. Natural gas, on the other hand, has many uses. In 2017, 37% of the gas consumed in the country produced electricity, while industrial uses such as petrochemical manufacturing consumed 32%, 18% went into homes for heating and cooking, and the commercial sector used another 13%. That versatility is one reason why natural gas demand will grow at a fast pace in the coming years.

Natural gas is a blend of hydrocarbon gases. It's plentiful in the US and energy-rich when burned. While it's a fossil fuel, like oil, it burns cleaner than oil.Natural gas price is cited in dollars per one million British thermal units (MMBTU). Natural gas is sold in MMBTU (amount of energy), but we report it in volumes (millions of cubic feet or MCF). So, an important measure of the gas is "richness" or how much energy (MMBTUs) are in one MCF of your produced natural gas.

1. Last on our natural gas facts list is that, since natural gas is used extensively for heating homes, natural gas prices can rise or fall depending on the weather. Colder winters can drive up natural gas demand for heating purposes while unseasonably warm winters can have the opposite effect. Other factors, such as the price of oil and competing energy sources, will also affect natural gas prices. 2. Natural gas market has a unique set of risks that investors should monitor closely. Price volatility is at the top since it can fluctuate wildly due to the ebb and flow of supply and demand. If gas prices fall too far, it can dry up producer profitability. The industry also faces regulatory risk as governments can enact laws that make it harder for companies to get drilling permits as well as limit where they can drill. Further, natural gas isn't without its environmental concerns since issues like methane emissions and fracking earthquakes could derail the industry's growth. Meanwhile, in addition to industry-wide issues, investors need to be aware of company-specific risks such as balance sheet health, infrastructure constraints, and mismanagement, which have caused some gas producers to underperform their rivals over the years.
